The Creation of Rem
Before Rem was Asmoth alone. He grew tired of nothingness and fell asleep, inspired to dream.
The first thing Asmoth dreamed was the Troll, Oldie. But it was lonely so Asmoth dreamed it a friend named Sing-Song. Things were quiet so Asmoth gave Sing-Song a voice but the voice was droning so Asmoth gave Oldie a drum.
The song and rhythm awoke the Cthonic Wyrm and the Heavenly Roc who, both bearing wings, fought for supremacy of the Sky. The Wyrm was driven into the Underworld, and its digging brought up briny water which poured forth and made the seas. No serpent may bear wings on Rem!
There were more Trolls dreamed up, called Big-Head and Crybaby. Big-Head made beasts to fill the world and swelled with pride. Crybaby grew jealous so it killed its only friend.
In the ensuing tantrum, Crybaby fled into and sealed the Sorry Cave, which is where apologies go when they are accepted and, as a result, nothing on Rem can truly be forgiven.
Next, Asmoth dreamed of the Elves and Dwarves, who immediately began to fight! This ancient conflict, scarcely remembered, is called the Dwarf-Elf War.
The dwarves built the mountains as strongholds and the elves built the forests to hide in.
This violent commotion inspired the Moon to rise excitedly from the salty seas and watch over the world of Rem with intense curiosity, generating the first light.
Although there were only eight dwarves and two dozen elves to begin with, the dwarves discovered procreation and would brew new dwarves with crystal hearts.
During the war, elves would create fae creatures and the dwarves would craft living weapons.
There are many dwarves in Rem, who leave the Mother Mountain on a Crystal Pilgrimage to find the perfect gem to generate an offspring. Today, only three elves remain:
- Tyrant Elf: The “Forget-Me-Not” Emperor, Zeron
- Forest Elf: the Wild Lord, Engis
- Warrior-Poet Elf: the Wandering Rose, Leobys
As dwarves learned procreation, they are capable of love. Elves were created with the singular desire to outlive the rest of Rem, including their own kind.
Then came the Wanderers, crashing into the realm on a falling star... Everything would change.
