Fight for your Lord - Combining the Cleric with the Fighter class.
In the Kingdom of GLUCK in the shadow of the Mountain UKTHABANG, all young men are educated in The Way. The Way is the Way and it is Right as often as it is Wrong. But, before anything else, The Way is the Way of The Sky Man and his Giant sons, Fyur and Fyut. The Sky Man was Goodness and his sons were Right and Wrong but no-one is sure which was which.
By worshiping The Sky Man and his Sons, his people are granted access to Miracles. Nowadays, only the warriors monks are permitted to learn Miracle, but long ago all people of Gluck could use the Way to Heal or cast Light onto dark things, among other uses.
When a Young Warrior comes of Age they are sent to wander the World beyond the Mountain UKTHABANG, and make their Choice of Service. For it is according to The Way that without a Master, a Warrior is nothing but a Murderer, one must find their Master in the outside world.
Of course, the expectation is that one will Choose the Order of the Way and make Pilgrimage to the High Peak at the World’s Edge, where one may go blind witnessing The Sky Man’s miraculous body in full, refulgent and plentiful. There they will swear an Oath to Protect and make a vow against using cutting weapons which will grant them access to Higher Miracles.
Some will Choose to serve a foreign King, away from Gluck, who will provide them with arms and armor, soldiers, and a Mission: To conquer a neighbouring enemy of the King. If the Knight should succeed, the land is his to rule as a Duke. If he should shirk his duties, the King will send his Army to destroy him.
But, there are those who will refuse to Choose a simple path and instead dedicate themselves to the Blade… Or Coin. What’s the difference? A swordsman has to eat. If the Warrior’s Choice is thus, they will gain access to an advanced fighting technique, and become capable of cleaving thru scores of foes.
A Warrior Monk has access to Fighter weapons and Armor, as well as Cleric spells. They cannot Cleave. They cannot Turn Undead. They stop advancing at Level 3.
Here they must make their Choice of Lord.
The Order of the Way:
By going on a pilgrimage and accepting the cleric class restrictions, the Warrior Monk gains access to Turn-Undead as well higher level Miracles.
The would be Initiate in the Order of the Way has a 20% chance of being Rejected by The Sky Man for some forgotten Evil. On the other hand, there is also a 5% chance of being Embraced by The Sky Man. The Embraced have all the benefits of the cleric class without the restrictions, being given free reign to commit Right and Wrong in the name of Goodness.
Knighthood:
By finding a King to serve, the Warrior Monk may receive the following...
A +1 Sword
Plate Armor
A Warhorse with Barding
20 Footmen
They will be tasked with conquering a neighbouring territory on behalf of the King, and are expected to follow this goal with any other objectives in service of its ultimate achievement. If they should shirk their duty in this regard, the King will send his Army after the disgraced Knight. If they should succeed, the Knight becomes a Duke.
The Path of Coin & Steel:
A Warrior Monk may dedicate themselves to the art of weapon fighting and will learn the cleave ability. This warrior can now instantly destroy a number of 1HD enemies equal to their level in a single attack so long as they should get past their Armor.
